Behind the Brand

At its core, The Ghost District is about working with what already exists. We’re about creating useful, thoughtfully made objects while building community through shared creative values.

Founded in 2021, The Ghost District began as a small creative brand specializing in ghost-inspired and spooky-themed drink-ware and accessories. After an extended hiatus, the company has since been reimagined and revitalized into the sustainable, handmade goods brand it is today.

At The Ghost District, we are committed to crafting eco-conscious, one-of-a-kind products that are both whimsical and responsibly made. Our focus lies in sustainability and creativity—each item is handmade using thoughtfully sourced materials, primarily from secondhand stores, thrift shops, and dead-stock fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. By giving new life to forgotten or discarded textiles, we create unique, limited-edition items while minimizing our environmental impact.

Our design philosophy centers on reducing waste at every step of the production process. We repurpose fabric remnants and scraps into practical and playful elements, such as stuffing for our handmade keychains or decorative packaging confetti. By making the most out of every material, we embrace the imperfect, the eerie, and the overlooked—turning them into pieces that carry both character and conscience.

The Ghost District continues to grow as a passion-driven project dedicated to sustainability, creativity, and thoughtful intention in everyday objects.

Hi, I’m Beth — an artist and graphic designer based in Upstate New York. My creative journey formally began in 2020, when I started studying graphic design at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many others during that time, I was searching for purpose and a creative outlet. I’ve always been drawn to the eerie, whimsical, and mixed media styles, so I decided to channel that inspiration into something tangible. That’s when The Ghost District was born — a space where art and handmade goods could come to life.

In the early days of starting the brand, I hadn’t yet discovered my visual style. But I loved the process: designing, experimenting, and physically creating products that others could hold and connect with. That hands-on experience led me into the world of production. During my final years of college, I worked in a range of production settings — from embroidering t-shirts and printing materials to manufacturing large-scale vinyl wraps for city buses.

While I gained valuable technical experience and a deep respect for craftsmanship, I also witnessed a troubling trend across all these environments: waste. Perfectly good shirts were discarded for minor embroidery flaws, and entire rolls of vinyl were thrown away due to slight color discrepancies. These experiences left a lasting impression on me. I realized I wanted to create differently — more intentionally, and with less waste.

After being let go from one of my last production jobs for standing up for myself, I made a pivotal decision: to invest my energy into building something of my own. While navigating unemployment, I returned to my sketchbook, reflecting on what I truly loved to make. I stopped designing for an imagined audience and started creating for myself. That’s when my artistic voice began to emerge — authentically, and without compromise.

Today, The Ghost District is more than a brand; it’s a personal and artistic extension of who I am. It's rooted in sustainability, individuality, and a deep love for the quirky and offbeat. Every piece I make is designed with intention, using salvaged materials and guided by a mindset of reuse and reinvention.

I believe that when you create from the heart, your people will find you. And that’s exactly what I hope to do — one handmade piece and design at a time.
